    SubSonic On Steroids (WW.DataServices)

The SubSonic Community should know that we've released software, built on SubSonic, called WebWidgetry DataServices

    www.nthpenguin.com

We'd like to know what the SubSonic Community thinks about the rich and powerful features we've created.

Download a trial version at http://www.nthpenguin.com/content/WWDataServices.aspx

    And please share your thoughts.

    Warm Regards,
    Nth Penguin

    That looks awesome!

When will you have it for VB.NET language?

    How much will it cost?

I am strictly a VB.NET developer.  Can I use it to generate the C# DAL within the same project?

    Thanks Robert,

    WebWidgetry is Awesome! :)

We're very excited about it and the other tools we're planning to give away FREE that help speed up the development of RIA's.

Right now, we don't have a VB version, but it's been talked about for our future product road map.  You should be able to gain benefits from using the generated C# code within the same project.  You're welcome to download and play with it at no cost.

However, because the other components of WebWidgetry are so powerful you might not need it all together.  We should be releasing more information within the next few months and also there's also our website www.nthpenguin.com

    Hope that answers your question,

    Nth Penguin

Looks awesome.  I guess the full version is $350?  What is FREE then?  Just wondering.

I didn't know i could use both C# and VB.NET in the same project.  That's awesome.  I'll have to try it out.

What do you mean by "you might not need it all together"?

    Thanks!

    Hi Robert,

Yes, we've recently changed our company's marketing strategy (which isn't exactly public yet) and plan to release select versions of WebWidgetry free.  Our website should be changed in a the next few days to reflect that, for now if you'd like a free copy of ww.dataservices just send me an email at: william (dot) roberts (@) Nthpenguin (dot) com and I will send you a download key.

Aside from this version that we've just released, we'll also have ww.dataservices pro & ww.interface (ww=WebWidgetry) coming real soon.

When these other tools are released you should be able to build RIA's super easy with most of the complicated/monotonous code "automagically" generated for you; freeing you up to express your application.  That's what I meant when I said, "you might not need it all together"

There are some other really fantastic features/integrations that I'm unable to disclose until all of the legalities have been met with our partners,. but stay tuned :)

    Hi there,

I tried the trial version but I noticed upon installation that there was no item in the start menu or in visual studio, it's only after I enabled an add-in that i could see what to do. Also the documentation is put in users/documentation folder etc it's very hard to actually find information about how to use the product. Also when you generate the code how do you refresh the tree? Basically substage is far better in regards to this.

How do you unistall this product? Where are the files installed to? Why is there no add /remove option?

I do understand that this is a trial version but if newbies out there to give them a chance the installation must be better.
Thanks for your time and effort

    Re: SubSonic On Steroids (WW.DataServices)

    Hi DotnetShadow,

    Our sincere apologies!

We are redoing our website next week and the new download files WILL include an uninstaller! This was a major oversight by us in our excitement to get a tool out there. For now, you can easily just delete the handful of files that were installed. They are located at the following locations: "{My Documents}\NthPenguin\WebWidgetry", "{My Documents}\Visual Studio {200X}\Addins", and "{My Documents}\Visual Studio {200X}\Templates\Project Templates".

Once again,  very sorry about that oversight...

note: {My Documents} = your user's Documents folder in Windows - and {200X} = your version of Visual Studio

In the Visual Studio addins folder, delete "WWPlugin.AddIn" and "WWPlugin.dll"

In the Visual Studio Project Templates folder, delete "WW.DataServices Project.zip"

And you can just delete the whole {My Documents}\NthPenguin folder.

After doing this, Visual might complain about the missing plugin the next time you run it, but you will be able to tell it to remove it and then it'll be all good.

Also, we apologize for the current lack of clear documentation... that is forthcoming ASAP (we're still a small team so we're scrambling to get as much support material done as we can)... we understand this is VERY important. Furthermore, as mentioned, we are changing our strategy and will NOT be charging for these tools going forward. The site is currently being changed to reflect our "Free Tools For You" strategy, and should be re-launched early next week at the latest!!

    Warm Regards,

    Hi there,

Thanks for the info, I finally got it all working and it looks like it can do the job, still needs a bit of tweaking but it will be exciting with the redevelopment of the new website keep up the great work, sometimes we don't appreciate how much work goes into free software

I like the concept, but having issues with a small test database.  It generates the classes, but its complaining about bigint primary keys.  I dont really want this to become a nTH Penguin forum, so the question I have is:  Is there a support forum for nTh Penguin?

    Hi DiverKas,

Thanks for checking out ww.dataservices and we apologize for the limited amount of documentation and resources.  We're currently working on making updates to the site, tutorial videos, and we've just add an "uninstaller" in the current version of the download.

In parallel to this, we're continuing to develop some additional pieces to the WebWigetry framework that handle the JS bridge layer and the interface components.

Until we have everything ready to publish you may contact us with support concerns/questions either through this tread, support(@)nthpenguin(Dot)com, or by calling us directly.

    Warm Regards,

Looks cool.. but doesn't Subsonic do that for you anyway ?? or did i miss something?

The part that you are missing is the fact it generates the SOAP web service for you.  Subsonic generates the DAL, and the nTh Penguin product generates the Webservice, in addition to calling out to SubSonic to generate the DAL.

It is a huge timesaver in terms of the time required to handcraft the web service.

The download page is broken. I've put in many email addresses and it doesn't send the email to download the trial. Someone send me the link please?

It took several hours for me to get the email link.  Not sure why.  I have been working with nTh Penguin for a few days to resolve some issues with the product.  The guys there are genuinely interested in making it work and I have high hopes.   I know one of the guys is off having a baby, well, wife is LOL.

Anyway, be patient, I am sure one of them will pop in here if the link has changed.

    RickRat,

There's something buggy about downloads through some versions of IE, which we are currently working on a fix for.  If you contact us at: support(@)nthpenguin(dot)com we can send you a fresh download key and work to make sure you get your copy.

    Thank you for your patience,

    Nth Penguin
